DARIEN — Downers Grove South's softball team pounded out 13 hits and topped host Hinsdale South 11-1 Tuesday afternoon.

The onslaught started early with Caitlyn Daly blasting a two-out, two-run home run following Jessica Andree's walk. The Mustangs scored four runs on five hits in the second with Emma Thibault, Melissa Orton and Andree picking up the RBIs.

Freshman pitcher Caroline Hedgcock struck out eight, walked none and surrendered just three hits to the Hornets as Downers Grove South improved to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in West Suburban Gold play.

Lauren Cairo's single up the middle in the fourth inning plated Sabrina Kuchta (single) for the Hornets' only run as they slipped to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in the WSG.
