Team led by ground-breaking cardiac surgeon joins Adventist Heart and Vascular
HINSDALE — A new cardiovascular surgical team led by Dr. Pat Pappas, who with his team were the first in Illinois to send a patient home with a total artificial heart, has joined the Adventist Heart and Vascular Institute.
Pappas, head of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgical Associates, is the new medical director of cardiovascular surgery at the institute. His team joined the Adventist Heart and Vascular Institute on March 22.
Along with the total artificial heart procedure, the team also was the first to perform robotic mitral valve repair and to send a patient home with a ventricular assist device to treat heart failure.
