To the Editor: As a resident of DuPage County for 24 years, I have enjoyed the forest preserves and wish to have them remain for future generations. Our environment is essential to the quality of life in this area making the recent news on the DuPage County Forest Preserve an important issue to me.
The Dupage County Forest Preserve Board protects the wonderful parks in DuPage County and I strongly oppose any legislation that would eliminate the Forest Preserve Board. Our parks are worthy of protection.
I am so glad that my representative, Deb Conroy, is sponsoring a HB 2377. In these hard economic times, this bill will create a ballot referendum eliminating the high salaries while keeping the Forest Preserve Board as an independent entity. Hopefully this will encourage a board motivated to preserving the environment and our parks in DuPage County rather than those serving for monetary gain.
The Forest Preserve Board must remain independent and separate from the DuPage County Board to maintain these parks for our children as Conroy's bill stipulates.
