LEMONT – Lemont-based manufacturer Oxbow Midwest Calcining will donate $15,000 to the Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Educational Foundation to fund STEM programming, according to a news release from the district.
Mayor Brian Reaves will recognize the donation with an official proclamation during the April 22 meeting of the Lemont Village Board of Trustees.
STEM programs focus on teaching science and math in order to prepare students for careers in technology. The Oxbow STEM grant will cover the cost of experiential learning opportunities such as a field trip to the Shedd Aquarium and an in-school exploration of rocks and minerals.
The company has previously donated $10,000 to the foundation to fund the JASON project, an online science curriculum that offers a hands-on method for seventh-graders to study outer space.
