Heflin leads DGN to win in West Suburban Silver opener

GLEN ELLYN - Playing in a steady drizzle Monday afternoon, it was Elaine Heflin who turned out to be the biggest disturbance for Glenbard West.

The Downers Grove North senior pitcher struck out 18 in a dominating complete-game effort, leading the Trojans to a 5-0 victory over the Hilltoppers in the West Suburban Silver opener for both teams.

The visitors plated three runs in the top of the first inning, with Ali Woitovich and Claire Jagielo both contributing RBI-singles.

The lead was increased to 4-0 on a wild pitch in the third before Woitovich added an RBI-hit in the fifth.

That run support was more than enough for Heflin, who allowed just two hits.
