LOMBARD — The Montini softball team has been digging the long ball lately.

Junior Sara Ross homered in four straight games before that streak came to an end on Tuesday. Through their first 11 games, the Broncos (8-3) have 14 home runs as a team.

Ross' streak started on April 3 in a 12-2 win over IC Catholic. Montini blasted four homers in that game, including two by freshman Alyssa Sclafani.

Ross also homered in a 9-2 win over Glenbard East the next day. Lauren Trojnar, Morganne Evans, Alyssa Sclafani and Zoe Dannenberg each had two hits in the victory. Dannenberg pitched five scoreless innings.

Last Friday, the defending Class 3A state champion Glenbard South beat the Broncos 14-4 in six innings, but Ross extended her streak to three games in the loss.

Montini bounced back with a 12-2 win at Rosary on Monday, and Ross made it four in a row with a three-run bomb. Morganne Evans also had two hits and two RBIs.

The streak stopped at four games, but Montini picked up a second straight win, 11-1 over Joliet Catholic, on Tuesday. Shaylee Lewis hit a home run and Isabell Alexander had three hits.

Montini is scheduled to host St. Edward on Friday in a Suburban Christian Conference game. The Broncos will travel to Aurora Central Catholic on Monday and Wheaton Academy on Tuesday in a pair of road league games.
