Bolingbrook's Heritage Woods opens doors to community with 'Supportive Living Week'
BOLINGBROOK – Heritage Woods of Bolingbrook invites residents to join their "Supportive Living Week" celebration April 22- 26.
Supportive living, or affordable assisted living, is a statewide program offering nursing home care for low-income, Medicaid supported seniors or persons with disabilities.
Encompassing the largest national Medicaid assisted living waiver, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) provides funds for amenities that are not routinely covered by Medicaid, such as personal care, medication management, laundry, games and activities, homemaking, and 24-hour supervision, according to the Affordable Assisted Living Coalition.
An annual, five-day event featuring games and activities, an open house, live music, a talent show, and a spa day, Heritage Woods hopes the festivities raise awareness of the senior community.
"Our goal is to give seniors the best life possible," said Jolleen Simonson, marketing director at the supportive living community in Bolingbrook. "Supportive Living Week is our time to show that we provide a dignified, compassionate, social lifestyle."
As Bolingbrook's only supportive living community, the four-year-old Heritage Woods houses 105 residents and is nearly always at capacity, Simonson said.
All Bolingbrook residents are welcome to attend five days of Supportive Living Week games and activities at Heritage Woods.
From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 22, the staff will host a spa day featuring manicures, facials, waxings and massages. On April 22, a storytelling competition will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by an ice cream social and live entertainment in the afternoon.
The Heritage Woods open house is April 24; the staff will guide tours and lead an informational session.
Supportive Living Week will conclude with a staff talent show and closing celebration ceremonies on April 25.
