HINSDALE — Jill Vorobiev, Gary Clarin and Mridu Garg will now look to ensure District 181 makes a smooth transition into the future after being elected to its school board Tuesday.

Each candidate spoke about the curriculum changes set to take place in the district with the Advanced Learning Program, which accelerates academics for all students.

“I think based on what’s being implemented for next school year, I think it’s going to be important to have some checks and balances and also improving communication,” Garg said in an interview with Suburban Life last month.

Each candidate, including Clarin, said they wanted to initially run because of the school district’s reputation. He said anyone who moves to the area moves there because of the district’s quality.

Clarin said he thought the race was professionally done with no fighting or bad-mouthing.

“All five candidates approached the entire campaign with an open mind and worked as hard as they could,” Clarin said.

Clarin said being endorsed by the caucus was one reason why he felt himself, Garg and Vorobiev were selected to school board.

Until seated in May, Clarin said he will try to learn as much as he can and will look to existing board members for input.

Vorobiev said it’s going to be entrusted on the new board to make sure the budget stays balanced, and to make sure the new curriculum is implemented the right way.

Vorobiev finished with a vote total of 1,726; Clarin received 1,384 votes; and Garg received 1,381.

The incumbent, Sarah Lewensohn, finished with 1,263 votes and challenger Richard Fitzgerald finished with 1,120.

Vote totals are unofficial until certified.
