Prep roundup: Montini baseball's Dobosenski throws 5-inning no-hitter
Ben Dobosenski threw a five-inning no-hitter in the Broncos’ 15-0 win over Wheaton Academy on Monday. He also had three RBIs at the plate. Austin Kline was 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs. Tyler Quick struck out six in a 4-3 win on Tuesday for the sweep of Wheaton Academy. In earlier non-conference play, the Broncos lost to De La Salle 13-12 on Friday.
The Warriors lost two of three to Morton in a West Suburban Gold series. Willowbrook won Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader 10-0 in five innings. Willowbrook scored nine runs in the fourth inning. Tyler Vavrek and Jake Cady each had three hits in the win. Dave Cericola struck out 10 batters.
Willowbrook lost Game 2 12-7 despite leading 7-3 after four innings. Mike Rothmund and Cal Moltzan each had two hits in the loss.
The Mustangs won the rubber game 4-3 on Monday. Dom Battaglia, Vavrek and Rothmund each had RBIs in the finale.
Crystal Marinelli had four hits and earned the win on the mound in a 12-7 win at Maine South on Saturday. Bri Murray had a complete game in a 5-3 win in the second game of the doubleheader. The Blazers beat Resurrection 8-7 on Monday with Alex DeSilvio getting the game-winning RBI.
The Warriors split a doubleheader with Elmwood Park on Saturday for their first loss of the season. Willowbrook won the first game 8-4. Darian Pelsor was 3-for-4 with a home run and Sam Schmidt blasted two home runs. Alyssa Ressinger was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Schmidt went 4-for-4 with another home run and five RBIs in Game 2, but the Warriors lost 8-6. Olivia Domin was 3-for-4. On Monday, Plainfield South beat the Warriors 3-1.
Alex Ruffer scored in the Rams’ 1-1 tie with Glenbard North on April 4. The next day East routed Romeoville 5-1 with two goals from Nicole Alfaro and one each from Jess DeJong, Brittany Paganucci and Corie Ewoldt. On Wednesday, defending state champion Naperville North beat the Rams 3-0.
The Broncos picked up back-to-back 3-0 wins over Elgin and Aurora Central Catholic over the weekend. St. Francis beat Montini 8-0 on Tuesday.
Alex Dickmann had 16 kills and Matt Hernet added nine kills and seven blocks in the Blazers’ 25-13, 18-25, 25-22 win over Morton on Tuesday. Kevin Grygo had 30 assists for AT. On Saturday the Blazers placed fifth out of 12 teams in the Rolling Meadows Invite.
The Warriors picked up a quality win at Lake Park, a state qualifier last year, on April 4. Willowbrook won 25-23, 21-25, 25-19. Austin Kirchner had 10 kills and Ben Wozniak added nine. On Monday, they lost to Lyons Township 24-26, 21-25 but recovered with a 25-17, 25-21 win over Hinsdale South on Tuesday. Kyle Dewyer had 26 assists in the win, which moved the Warriors to 2-0 in the West Suburban Gold.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
The Broncos won the 4 x 100-meter relay and Mike Spangler also took second in the 100-meter dash at the 46th annual Gary Johnson Bulldog Relays at Riverside Brookfield on Saturday. John Brady won the long jump with a 20-foot jump.
The 4 x 800-meter relay team took first at the Glenbard South Raider Open on Saturday. Joe Atria, Kevin Otte, Luis Miranda and Juan Valdez teamed up for the first-place medal. Anthony Guzman, Miranda, Otte and Valdez also won the 4 x 400 relay. Atria went on to take third in the 1,600-meter run. Taylor White was second in the high jump. The Blazers were fourth out of six teams overall.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Four relay teams won at the 46th annual Gary Johnson Bulldog Relays at Riverside Brookfield on Saturday. Gianna Salzbrunn was third in the 300-meter hurdles and Theresa Connelly earned the same spot in the triple jump.
The Warriors placed fifth out of 10 teams Friday at the Anthony J. Canino Invitational at Hinsdale Central. Keawe Winstead was second on vault (9.05), third on the pommel horse (8.3), fifth on floor (9.0), fifth on the parallel bars (8.5) and seventh on the horizontal bar (7.0) to place fifth in the all-around with a 47.95 total. Dominic LoFrano was 10th in the all-around with a 38.35 score.
The Blazers took fourth out of seven teams as hosts of the Fred Dennis Invite on Saturday with a team score of 116.55. Marco Martinez was seventh in the all-around with a 38.35 total. Martinez tied for ninth on the horizontal bar with a 5.6 and R.J. Infusino tied for ninth on rings with a 7.0.
The Rams took fifth in Addison Trail’s Fred Dennis Invite with a 115.4 team score. Shariq Imam placed fifth on the pommel horse with a score of 7.3. Joey Brauer was eighth in the all-around (38.0) and Melik Prum was ninth (36.8).
The Rams beat Glenbard North 12-3 in a DuPage Valley Conference match on April 4. Rachel Schlitter, Kinga Glowik and Kaely Cantua won at the top three singles positions. East took fourth out of eight teams at the Willowbrook Invite on Saturday.
The Warriors totaled 49 points to tie for second in the eight-team Willowbrook Invite on Saturday.
