Westmont soccer breaks scoring drought with first goal of season
First goal of season just part of the progress for young Sentinels.
WESTMONT — The winter weather that lingered well into March made life difficult for girls soccer teams hoping to get outside for preseason practices.
The weather affected Westmont a little more than most. A team that features five freshmen starters and carries 12 freshmen on the roster, the Sentinels’ first time on a game field was in their first game against Montini.
“We were doing a crash course on techniques and positioning when we were inside, but we didn’t have a chance to do that outside,” coach Ron Neurauter said. “Before our first game, the only other time we were outside it was on a makeshift field with no goals and it was snowing.”
