Madison Elementary students to dedicate new outdoor classrooms

HINSDALE — April 18 at Madison Elementary School will be a day packed with activity, including the construction of the school’s new Outdoor Living Classroom and the second-annual High Interest Day.

At 8:45 a.m., students will sing a song dedicating the construction of the Outdoor Living Classroom during an all-school meeting. Each grade level will have a dedicated space geared to their level of development and coordinated to enrich the programs that are already part of their curriculum.

The school received a grant from the Nikum Foundation which, along with a school and community fundraising effort and PTO funds, covers the cost of the new space. Plans are to have the Outdoor Living Classroom completed this spring and ready for students to use before the school year ends. A May 3 ribbon cutting is planned.

The second-annual High Interest Day begins at 9:40 a.m. Students will have the opportunity to learn in-depth about a host of topics.

Third-, fourth- and fifth-graders are able to choose from among 23 different classes and activities, including topics such as experiencing a day in the life of an emergency room doctor, learning about marine science and seeing what happens when chemistry and physics are pushed to the limits.
