Cause of late night house fire in Darien under investigation
DARIEN – The Darien-Woodridge FIre Protection District said a Darien home was damaged and is temporarily uninhabitable after a fire started in the furnace room of the home Saturday night.
Fire units responded to the call at about 11:15 p.m. April 6 for a report of a house fire along the 1500 block of Sequoia Lane in Darien. When units arrived, they saw smoke coming from the attic area.
Fire Prevention Director Robert Morris said Sunday that the fire apparently started in a furnace room of the home and spread to the attic. The damage from the fire was contained to those two areas, he said.
Two residents of the home were inside at the time the fire broke out and were able to get out along with a family cat. No injuries were reported to inhabitants or to firefighters, Morris said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Morris said the home is uninhabitable while inspecttors check for structural damage. No damage estimate was immediately available, but Morris said there was moderate damage caused by the fire.
Several area fire departments assisted in bringing the blaze under control, Morris said.
