Glendale Heights police seek suspect identification in suspicous package investigation

GLENDALE HEIGHTS – The Glendale Heights Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in attempting to identify a suspect in an investigation into two suspicious packages left in an African grocery and clothing store last month.

The department released surveillance photos on April 5 of a suspect and a vehicle that may have been involved in the incident, which occurred at bout 2:18 p.m. March 10.

Police said the unknown male placed two backpacks on the ground inside of Zegben's African Store, 368 E. North Ave., and fled the scene in a vehicle, according to a news release issued by police.

Glendale Heights police detective Erik Potrafka said April 6 that the backpacks did not contain any explosive devices but did contain some electronic componets. Only the store owner was present at the time of the incident, Potrafka said.

After reviewing surveillance video from the store and nearby locations, it is determined the suspect was wearing a gray and white type letterman-type jacket and jeans and was last seen leaving the area in what appears to be a dark colored Toyota Corolla, police said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or recognizes the subject should call Potrafka at 630-909-5457.
