Letter: Slate would move school district forward

Published: Friday, April 5, 2013 2:58 p.m. CDT

To the Editor: As a former School Board member, I recognize and value the importance of an effective, collaborative School Board and their effect on the academic achievement and well-being of District 86 high school students. For that reason, I am supporting the "Building on Excellence" slate of Brennan, Gorgol, Gallo and Rosenthal.

All of these individuals have school board experience and are focused on moving the district forward in a well-thought out, respectful manner. Improved safety and security at both schools and careful financial planning and adjustments to spending have resulted in seven balanced budgets. Through their past work, Brennan, Gorgol, Gallo and Rosenthal have demonstrated efficient and reasonable process by adherence to board policy and procedures.

One of the primary responsibilities of the board is to work with the superintendent. Single-issue candidates or those with an agenda stall the work of the superintendent and the board and delay in providing our students and teachers with the programs and support they need to have a first-class educational program. I believe this slate is respectful and collaborative and will listen to each other as they work to ensure the highest level of academic experiences for our students, teachers and administrators.

I urge you to vote on April 9 for the "Building on Excellence" slate of Brennan, Gorgol, Gallo and Rosenthal, Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6 on the ballot.
