Letter: Candidates would maintain school standards

Published: Friday, April 5, 2013 3:03 p.m. CDT

To the Editor: As a widowed senior and homeowner, I gladly support Mike Hawbaker and Mark Mirabile for District 107 School Board.

I have heard a lot of talk going around about how we need change. But speaking for myself, I don’t want change. Even though my children are all grown, I have grandkids in D-107 and my kids are saving money on registration and other fees.

It is important to maintain our school standards and assure our property values. I got a real estate tax reduction without compromising the schools — imagine that! I don’t know of anything else that the price has gone down on, think about that.

Mark Mirabile has a proven track record that speaks for itself, on the board for eight years, the very same board that is saving me money. I know Mike Hawbaker and he has a good head on his shoulders. Mike will be a sensible impartial addition to the board with his strong fiscal responsibility and morals. They will do what is right for everyone.

A dollar doesn't go nearly as far as it used to. Saving money just makes good economic sense, and you have to save it where you can. I say if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. I am voting for Mike and Mark to keep up the good work.
