Letter: Business sense needed on Village Board

Published: Friday, April 5, 2013 3:11 p.m. CDT

To the Editor: Lombard's village election is coming up next month and this is a very important one. After having Bill Mueller as the president of the Village Board for more than 20 years, sadly we have the task of choosing a successor.

The last time we had a village election this important was 40 years ago, in 1973. We had a one-party rule for well over a decade prior to that election. The electorate rebelled in April 1973 and changed the form of government to district representation, which is still our form of government.

I understand one of the candidates for the top spot on April 9 has formed a slate where they have candidates for other positions, such as trustee and village clerk, working together. This could be construed as bringing party politics back.

My choice for the position of village president is Keith Giagnorio. He is a small business man in town and has been involved in the community for many years. He served on the Park District Board, now serves as a village trustee and has supported many local organizations.

We need to have people in government who have business experience. Keith knows what it's like to make payrolls for his employees, how to balance his business budget as well as his family budget. We have all seen how government can create debt — we need Keith on the job.
