Glenbard West

Coach: Jim Valleskey

Top players:

Jack Kellenberger sr. doubles

Kenny Reick sr. doubles

Steven Hanna so. singles

Jacob Koch sr. singles

Nate Dell fr. singles

What to watch: Coming off a 2012 season in which they went 11-6 in dual meets and finished third at the Naperville North sectional, the Hilltoppers have a strong core in place.

Glenbard West returns nine players to the fold from a year ago, including the doubles team of seniors Jack Kellenberger and Kenny Reick. Also back is sophomore Steven Hanna, who was an all-conference performer at No. 2 singles, and senior Jacob Koch, who enters his fourth year on varsity.

A newcomer to keep an eye on is freshman Nate Dell, who takes over at No. 1 singles position from state qualifier Matt Hirsch, who has since graduated.

“A strong team effort could allow them to finish fourth in the WSC behind state powerhouses Hinsdale Central, Oak Park and Lyons Township,” said Glenbard West coach James Valleskey. “The boys play in one of the toughest sectionals in the state. They will need to continue to improve during the season to qualify for state and finish higher than their third-place (sectional) finish last year.”

Coach: Mark Conrad

Top players:

Brendan Colgan so. singles

Rushil Bakhshi sr. singles

Avinash Panjwani fr. singles

What to watch: With a talented group of singles players, expectations have risen for the Raiders this spring.

Sophomore Brendan Colgan will handle the No. 1 singles responsibilities with senior Rushil Bakhshi, who also played doubles a year ago, penciled in at No. 2 singles. Big things are also expected from freshman Avinash Panjwani.

“I am very excited about this year’s prospects,” said Glenbard South coach Mark Conrad, “and we have committed ourselves to wrestle the conference championship away from Timothy Christian, last year’s champs.”
