Westmont Park District doing controlled fire burns in several areas Friday

WESTMONT — People that see fires or a lot of smoke near parks or wooded areas in Westmont on Friday should not be alarmed, as the fires will be controlled burns done by the Westmont Park District to help control natural landscape growth.

The village of Westmont has announced that there will be several controlled fires in the village on Friday, depending on weather conditions. Some of the locations where the fires are scheduled include Muddy Waters Park, Twin Lakes Woods, Ty Warner Park, the 35th Street and Oakwood Drive detention basin, according to the village of Westmont website.

The fires will be set by trained crews, under the supervision of local fire authorities, officials said.
