BOLINGBROOK — A Bolingbrook man allegedly caught smoking drugs tried to evade police by hiding under a neighbor’s deck with his two young children, according to the Bolingbrook Police Department.

Terrell D. Fanniel, 23, was charged with multiple arrest warrants, possession of cannabis and endangering the life of a child and was cited for several traffic violations in the 400 block Monarch Lane April 2, police said.

About 6:28 p.m. that day, a resident in the 500 block of Larkspur Drive reported multiple subjects parked in a black Range Rover smoking drugs, according to Lt. Mike Rompa. When officers arrived, the Range Rover reportedly sped off, Rompa said.

Police lost sight of the vehicle, but it was located unoccupied and parked in the driveway of a residence in the 400 block of Monarch Lane, according to Rompa. The homeowner did not know whom the vehicle belonged to, police said.

Police reportedly found Fanniel hiding under a neighboring deck with his two children, each approximately 3 years old, according to police. Rompa said the suspect was aware he was wanted for multiple outstanding warrants.

The Range Rover was impounded and officers seized approximately 30 grams of cannabis in six individual packages inside the vehicle, according to police.

The children were turned over to family members, and the Department of Child Services was notified of the incident.

Fanniel was processed and transported to Will County Adult Detention Facility.
