DOWNERS GROVE — Singers from Downers Grove South High School joined choral groups from across the region for an all-area noncompetitive choral festival March 10.

The Downers Grove students were joined by singers from Hubbard High School in Chicago and the Campanella Children's Choir in Northbrook. The event, the second annual Youth Choral Festival, was hosted by Chicago a cappella.

The 80 students in all participated in workshops, singing practice and performances.

In the morning sessions, each ensemble rehearsed their own repertoire with Chicago a cappella’s singers and director. In the afternoon, students took part in breakout sessions with topics ranging from career options, vocal percussion techniques and expressive stage performance.

The festival culminated with a concert at the University of Chicago's Rockefeller Memorial Chapel featuring all three ensembles as well as other Chicago singers.
