Riverside-Brookfield celebrates a big point during a game against Morton on Thursday, March 21, 2013.

RIVERSIDE — Riverside Brookfield has been working on its blocking and it paid off Thursday against Leyden.

Paul Kraus’ back-to-back stuffs in game one lifted RB to an 11-1 run to close game one against the visiting Eagles. The Bulldogs (7-2) went on to win 25-16, 25-19.

“Blocking was definitely the thing that sparked us tonight,” said coach Dan Bonarigo. “It got everybody excited.”

Jack Gibson led RB with seven kills. Mike Kosik had five kills, Mitch Malloy added four and Tim Thor-Larsen put down three.

Libero Jake Fieseler also had a strong defensive game and contributed an ace with his topspin jump serve.

“I think we’re doing pretty good,” Fieseler said. “The team is really working together really well.”

RB next plays in the Rolling Meadows Invite on Saturday.
