Miller's shutout sparks Glenbard East win at Nazareth

LA GRANGE PARK — Kara Tadda entered the season as the top pitcher for Glenbard East softball as a four-year varsity player, but early on this spring junior Grace Miller has both of the Rams’ wins.

Miller picked up a complete game shutout at Nazareth on Wednesday to carry East to a 6-0 win.

The junior is having little trouble adjusting to varsity softball so far this season.

“It’s not that bad,” Miller said. “It’s like travel when you play at that level so it’s the same.”

Sophomore Kelli Tyler drove in three runs in the first with a base clearing double. Tyler was 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI.

That was more than enough run support to Miller, who struck out six Roadrunners and surrendered just three hits.

“She had good placement today and we finally got the bats going,” said East coach Val Pinzker. “Yesterday we were frustrated because we had people in scoring position and we couldn’t get it done and today things were kind of coming together.”

Megan Cotterill and freshman Kailey Lyons each had two hits for the Rams (2-2).

Nazareth (5-2) had been off to a good start this season and is hoping they can get back to the form that helped them win five of their first six games.

“I feel like we gave extra opportunities by not playing our sharpest and at the plate we looked weak,” said Nazareth coach Kristen Stojetz. “We played really well last week so I’m just hoping that this was a miscue for us.”
