Sixth grader puts best foot forward for awareness of Down Syndrome
BATAVIA – Rotolo Middle School students weren't just acting silly when they wore brightly colored mismatched socks to school March 21. Sixth-grade student Katie Michel asked her friends friends via text message and Instagram to wear "brightly colored crazy" mismatched socks to bring awareness to World Down Syndrome Day.

"When someone asks you why, you can say for Down syndrome," Michel said in her message. Michel arranged for the awareness day after a friend of the family gave birth to a baby with Down syndrome.

Conservation event set for Batavia
BATAVIA – An event, Conservation @ Home, is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at city hall, 100 N. Island Ave., Batavia. The event is an extension of the Conservation Foundation’s existing homeowner education and watershed protection effort – the Conservation@Home program, which encourages and recognizes property owners that protect and create yards that are environmentally friendly and conserve water. Homeowners participating in Conservation @ Home can have a personal visit to their yard to offer specific advice. Qualified participants can become a C@H member, earn a yard sign and a one-year membership to The Conservation Foundation for $50.
