Butler District 53 science olympiad team competes at regionals

OAK BROOK — Butler Junior High and Brook Forest students recently competed in the regional Illinois Science Olympiad competition showcasing their creativity, knowledge and problem-solving skills.

The District 53 students – 13 varsity and seven junior varsity — took eight medals at the event, which took place March 9 at the College of DuPage. The team missed going to state by two places, finishing in ninth place.

The results of the competition are:

Varsity

Reach for the Stars: Fifth place, Annika Sial.

Experimental Design: Fifth place, Anisha Advani, Annie Tatooles and Veena Sundar.

Sounds of Music: Sixth place, Peter Paskalides and Matt Rajan.

Heredity: Sixth place, Carolyn Chun and Annie Tatooles.

Water Quality: Second place, Warren Chen and James Kratochvil.

Food Science: Fifth place, Carolyn Chun and Annie Tatooles.

Junior Varsity

Roto Egg Drop: Third place, Anuj Karamchandani and Ross Atassi.

Roto Egg Drop: First place, Carolyn Chun and Annie Tatooles.

Other participants from Butler who also competed were: Meena Deshpande, Rithik Prakash, Aryan Sawlani, John Stojka, Lucas Yuan, Sachin Advani, Marcos Lopez, Nikhil Patel, Ashvin Sial and Rizwan Zaheer.
