NORTH RIVERSIDE — In the early morning hours of April 3, a Bolingbrook man was struck and killed by a vehicle while on his bike in North Riverside, according to a police statement.

Anthony J. Catalano, 51, was struck by a car around 3:34 a.m. and pronounced dead at Loyola Hospital a short time later.

North Riverside police reported responding to several calls that a man had been struck by a vehicle in the 2300 block of Harlem Avenue. Officers on the scene reported finding Catalano unresponsive and lying in the roadway south of 23rd Street.

Police closed the southbound lanes of Harlem between Cermak Road and 24th Street for three and a half hours for the investigation.

Police reported that a bicycle was found at the scene, but it is unclear whether Catalano was walking beside it, or riding it at the time he was struck.

Police have said that the driver of the vehicle that struck Catalano, a 28-year-old man was cooperating with their investigation and submitted to breath and chemical tests.

No charges have been filed and the incident is still under investigation.
