Woodridge police holding trivia night for Special Olympics fundrasier

WOODRIDGE — Residents who have a knack for answering trivia questions have a chance this week to show off their knowledge while raising money for a good cause.

The Woodridge Police Department will hold its annual Team Trivia Night, a fundraiser for Special Olympics Illinois, at 6 p.m. Friday, April 5 at Bobak's Signature Events, 6440 Double Eagle Drive in Woodridge.

The cost for the event is $25 per person, or $200 for a 10-person team, with the proceeds going to support the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

The event is organized by Woodridge police officer Daniel McIntyre, who has been involved in numerous fundraisers over the past couple of years to benefit Special Olympics Illinois.

He and another Woodridge officer, Sgt. Tom Stefanson, participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Super Plunge in February, when they and other teammates took 24 dips over 24 hours in the icy waters of Lake Michigan. They raised more than $8,300.

McIntyre said the Woodridge community has been very supportive of the Special Olympics fundraisers over the years, and more than $15,000 was raised in 2012 by the department.

"Not only does the program bring in funding for Special Olympics Illinois, but it raises awareness to the the program and benefits young athletes for years to come," McIntyre said.

Trivia of various topics will begin at 7 p.m. Each team will consist of 10 members. The event will consist of 10 rounds with 10 questions per round and several different categories such as sports, television, movies, video games and pop culture. A first place award will be presented to the winning team.

In addition to the trivia competition, a raffle will be held throughout the night.

For information on the event, contact McIntyre at 630-960-8919.
