New Bolingbrook trustee Maria Zarate confident in state, local experience
BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook's newest trustee describes herself as a people person who continually advocates for marginalized populations.
Maria Zarate ran unopposed in the Tuesday election for one of three open trustee seats on the village board. She joins incumbents Joseph Morelli and Michael Lawler in filling the three open spots.
Zarate knows she has big shoes to fill – she's taking over for Sandra Swinkunas, who opted not to seek re-election after 20 years on the board – but the Chicago native is confident her experience in local and state government will yield a succinct transition to her role as Bolingbrook trustee.
