Lombard to celebrate Arbor Day, plant tree in Bill Mueller's memory

LOMBARD — This month, the Village of Lombard will celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree in honor of the late Village President Bill Mueller.

At 1 p.m. April 19, the Ivory Silk species of lilac tree will be planted on the south side of the pond next to Village Hall. The tree has been donated by Wilson Nurseries & Landscape in Hampshire. Since 1989, the village has purchased its trees from Wilson.

The Mueller family will be present during the celebration, along with students from St. Pius X School, which was Bill Mueller's parish.

It a tradition in Lombard to celebrate Arbor Day by planing a new tree somewhere in the community.

"Mr. Mueller always loved seeing the students at this annual tree planting," said Steve Kremske, forestry and landscape supervisor for the village's Public Works Department.
