WHEATON — The cause of a fire Monday evening that was contained to the first floor of a Wheaton home remains under investigation, according to a news release on the city of Wheaton website.

The Wheaton Fire Department responded to a reported structural fire at about 7:45 p.m.

The fire was on the first floor of a residence in the 1300 block of East Shady Lane. Crews brought the fire under control within 15 minutes, according to the release.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire. The basement and second floor sustained water and smoke damage, and no one was injured in the fire.

The Wheaton Building Department was called to the scene, and the Wheaton Police Department along with several neighboring fire departments assisted. The building was turned back over to the property owner after the fire was extinguished.

The Wheaton Fire Department and DuPage County Fire Investigation Taskforce are looking into the cause of the fire. Damage estimates are unavailable.
