LOMBARD — Yorktown Center announced Monday its plans to begin a multi-million dollar renovation project to enhance the shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities of the mall. Although a formal timeline was not announced, the project is expected to last several years.

This renovation plan is being coordinated by Yorktown Center’s new owners, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P., in association with YTC Pacific, and will begin this spring.

“Over the next several months and years, Yorktown Center will begin to take on a fresh and more vibrant look and feel,” said Steve Plenge, president of Pacific Retail Capital Partners, LLC, partner of KRE YTC Venture, LLC and owner of Yorktown Center. “We are building from what is already a very successful property and evolving the space to be more contemporary and consistent with how shoppers are engaging with malls today.”

According to a news release from Yorktown Center, updates will be made to the mall’s center court, food court, restrooms and mall entrances. The renovation project will add a family lounge to the property, along with new landscaping and lighting.

“We are pleased to see the continued investment by KKR as they move forward with their common area and food court improvements to Yorktown Center,” said Bill Ware, Lombard’s acting village president. “These enhancements demonstrate their commitment to ensure that the center remains a primary destination for shoppers.”
