Village to begin cataloguing Downers Grove's historic homes

Published: Tuesday, April 2, 2013 6:01 a.m. CDT

DOWNERS GROVE — The village is conducting a survey of historic homes and buildings in Downers Grove starting this week.

The information collected will be used to create a historical architectural report — which "moves the village one step closer to protecting Downers Grove's unique and historic residential neighborhoods," according to a news release from the village.

Researchers will be taking photographs from the street or sidewalk and recording notes about the location and architectural detail of homes. Neighborhood residents will be notified in advance of the visits.

The report is being funded in part by a $15,000 grant from the State of Illinois Certified Local Government program, which recognizes and supports local historic preservation activities.

This activity is being managed by the Community Development Department.
