Kincanon sets win streak in motion

RB ace starts four-game winning streak

BERWYN — Riverside Brookfield baseball is loaded with senior talent, but a junior, Will Kincanon, may be the most important part of the team.

Kincanon is the Bulldogs’ ace and showed why on Thursday in Berwyn. The junior struck out nine Morton batters in an 8-4 RB win.

“I had my good stuff,” Kincanon said. “I think all three of my pitches are strikeout pitches. On any given day all those pitches can be A-plus pitches. Today my fastball was biting a lot and had a lot of movement and my curveball was really good so that was what we went with.”

Kincanon is still early in his recruiting process, but already has received interest from a number of Division I programs such as Coastal Carolina, Illinois and Michigan. Kincanon also visited Creighton just before baseball season started.

Kincanon gave up four runs over six innings against Morton, but the bats provided plenty of support. As one of those bats, and one of RB’s top hitters last season, Kincanon is trying to improve at both facets of his game.

“Pitching I think is what I’m better at now, but eventually I think I could be pretty good at both,” Kincanon said. “Hitting is progressing and I hit the ball well last year. I’m just hoping to get better at both.”

RB has plenty of reason to think they will get better as a team from last year thanks to having a large majority of the team back. Most of RB’s lineup is back and another two-way standout, senior Alex Nenadovic, will play a big role on the mound and in the order.

All that experience back from a squad that won 23 games has the Bulldogs thinking big.

“We’ve been expecting great things this year,” said coach Dallas Till. “Anything less than a conference championship and probably a regional championship would probably not be up to our standards and expectations this year.”

The Bulldogs built the first winning streak of the season by sweeping a doubleheader at St. Francis on Saturday. RB won 17-6 in Game 1 and 8-6 in Game 2. Alex Nenadovic and Kevin Garvey picked up wins on the mound. Kincanon had five hits in the doubleheader and C.J. Duffek had four.
