Elmhurst police find candy box with broken phone and bags of heroin

ELMHURST — Elmhurst police responded to a call for a suspicious item at 7:40 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of North Berteau Avenue and found a red candy box containing a black flip phone and four small bags of a white substance.

The substance field tested positive for heroin, according to police reports, and the phone was broken and out of minutes.

Police are waiting for the cellphone provider to contact the owner of the phone. There are no suspects at this time.
