WHEATON — A Wheaton man has been charged in a string of church burglaries, according to a news release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Jason Schultz, 38, of the 700 block of Liberty Avenue in Wheaton, has been charged with one count of burglary from a school or place of worship, a Class 1 felony, according to the release.

The Sheriff's Office began its investigation in mid-November after receiving reports of a burglary at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church near Glen Ellyn. About a month later, the office received reports of three additional burglaries that occurred in Milton Township — one at a school and two at churches, including St. Luke's.

The investigation led officers to Schultz, according to the release. It is alleged that Schultz would intentionally damage property, such as computer equipment, upon entering the building and eat on the premises as well, the release reads. Most of the incidents occurred in the evening or early morning hours, according to officials.

Schultz is being held in the DuPage County Jail and will appear in bond court Thursday afternoon.
