Prep roundup: York badminton dominates Ram Invitational
Dukes won tuornaments titles in nine of 10 levels
The Dukes placed sixth at the Conant Invitational on Friday after going 2-2 at the tournament.
York beat Walter Payton Prep (17-25, 25-22, 15-6) and the host Cougars (25-17, 25-18) in pool play, but fell to Lake Park (27-26, 25-19).
In the fifth-place match, the Dukes lost to Highland Park 25-22, 25-16. York (2-3) returns Tuesday against Lyons Township, which won the tournament.
The Knights lost to host Lisle 1-0 at the Lisle Invite on Saturday. They also lost a 4-1 decision to Francis Parker.
"It was a good opportunity to play two top level 1A schools to see where we are and where we need to go to compete with the more established programs," said IC coach Todd Privett.
The Dukes dominated Glenbard East's Ram Invitational. All three of York's varsity singles players won their bracket in the eight-team field.
Two doubles teams won and all four levels of JV won, which counted toward the overall team scores. Georgia Schneider was the champion at No. 1 singles and did so without dropping a set. Julia Carlson did the same at No. 2 singles. Lauren Liang and Karen Altercott teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles.
The Dukes placed seventh out of 21 teams at the Rolling Meadows Invitational on Saturday. Senior Matt Flynn was York's top place finisher by taking third on floor exercise with an 8.6.
BOYS WATER POLO
After beating McHenry 7-6 in the pool play opener at Schaumburg's tournament on Friday, the Dukes went on to take third place.
York beat Whitney Young 15-10 and lost to St. Charles East 7-6 to round out pool play. The 2-1 record placed the Dukes in the third-place game. There, York beat the host Saxons 7-2.
