School board member Hansen preaches accountability and financial responsibility
Why are you running for re-election?
I believe some of the changes that we have made in the last two years — core curriculum, all-day kindergarten, bringing in the Odyssey program — are things that I really want to see through and monitor. I want to also be involved in further financial decisions such as balancing the budget and the new tax levy. We have been able to work within our budget and not affect classroom sizes, education or students' extracurricular choices.
Why do you think that you should be re-elected?
I would really like to continue on this course. We are at the beginning phases of seeing improved assessment scores. I believe that trend will continue, especially with the implementation of the all-day kindergarten.
What is the biggest issue facing Valley View School District?
I think the biggest issue is accountability. I am a firm believer that every sakeholder —students, families, teachers, administrations, school board — need to be held accountable for the goals that the school and district has set forth. Our goal is to give the best possible education and allow our students to have a great opportunity once they graduate.
