School board candidate Strong brings youth couseling and mentoring experience
Why are you running for a Valley View School Board seat?
I am a team player, and my goal is to be able to implement ideas and programs that can enhance the Valley View School District and that will benefit not only students but our teachers as well.
Why should you be elected?
I should be elected because of my experience working with teens and youth. I have experience counseling and mentoring and I have studied the educational system on a local, national and federal level. I have a great understanding of the No Child Left Behind laws and where the district currently stands and where we need to improve.
What is the biggest issue facing Valley View School District?
I think the biggest issue facing the school district is the hiring process of teachers and administrators. We need to make sure that we have the right professionals with the right background, all of whom must understand the diversity of our students.
What do you think about the recent court ruling forcing Valley View to pay back millions of dollars in property taxes to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital?
It is bothersome. I feel it should have been addressed as something that ;may happen.' We are now reacting towards it, we should have been better prepared. It is unfortunate because it will probably drain resources from the school system moving forward.
