Letter to the Editor: Resident wants change in Downers Grove
As a resident of Downers Grove for over 29 years, I would encourage the voters of Downers Grove in the April 9 election to vote against incumbents Robert Barnett and Marilyn Schnell.
The village has gone from a responsible caretaker of the people’s business, to we are going to impose on you what we think is best for you.
I live next to the Valley View retention pond that the village inherited from the original developer. The village neglected the pond for 40 years. In 2012, the village decided to "naturalize” the pond.
The village decided to spend over $ 500,000 to make our little lake into a swamp. The village then conducted numerous meeting with the residents for their input. The residents voiced unanimous strong objections to the plan but the council decided to go ahead anyway.
The village then asked for the residents' suggestions to improve the plan. The residents provided numerous thoughtful ideas including don’t do anything and don’t spend the money. The village imposed their original plan.
The village wasted hundreds of our man-hours to impose what they decided in the first place.
It’s time to take our village back.
David Wilson, Downers Grove
