Letter to the Editor: Reader appreciates DG Advocates group

Published: Wednesday, March 27, 2013 1:07 p.m. CDT

For every local election, the Downers Grove Community Advocates publish a list of candidates for local office who have passed through a rigorous review and earned their endorsement.

This diverse, independent community group is made up of local residents with many years of community service in government, schools and other civic groups. The members of the Advocates care about our community and about providing a constructive non-partisan forum for local issues.

This year they have endorsed Bob Barnett, Greg Hosé and Marilyn Schnell for Downers Grove Village Council, and Henry Jakobsze, Julia Kennedy Beckman, Terry Pavesich and Rick Pavinato for the District 99 High School Board.

The pamphlet the Advocates mail to everybody in town is very informative about the candidates who have earned their endorsement. I always look for it in my mailbox when theres an election coming up. I also like the fact it includes a sample ballot you can take with you when you go to vote.

Local offices are so important to the future of our town and for our children and grandchildren. I'm glad that we have a group like the Advocates to help with selecting the right people for the right jobs for the right reasons in our community.
