ELECTION 2013: Valley View School Board candidates make their cases

Eight candidates will vie for four seats on the Valley View School District 365U Board of Education in the Tuesday election.

Five challengers will take on three incumbents. The fourth seat was vacated by Jim Curran, who opted not to seek re-election.

Below is a list and profile of the eight Valley View School Board candidates.

Ronnie Bull (incumbent)

Age: 73

Residence: Bolingbrook

Education: Bachelors of business, Baylor University

Elizabeth "Liz" Campbell (incumbent)

Age: 55

Residence: Bolingbrook

Education: Bachelor of science in business administration, Roosevelt University

Dan Falese

Age: 46

Residence: Bolingbrook

Education: Bachelors degree, Lewis University

Qualifications: Experience with contract and labor negotiations and collective bargaining agreements; three children currently in the Valley View School District

Chrystal L. Hansen (incumbent)

Age: 49

Residence: Bolingbrook

Education: Bachelors in Applied Sociology and Political Science, Lewis University

Qualifications: Incumbent candidate

Jaime Olson

Age: 35

Residence: Bolingbrook

Education: Bachelors of Arts in history and political science, University of Iowa; Juris Doctor Degree, DePaul University

Qualifications: HR manager, handling the budget of a company of over 500 employees; I am well-versed in appropriations law, budget development, staffing analysis, fund certification, inventory and tracking systems; labor and employment law attorney

Sinatra Strong

Age: 50

Residence: Bolingbrook

Education: Bachelors in healthcare leadership, bachelors in marketing, Lewis University

Qualifications: Background in counseling youth and teenagers; father of children in the Valley View School District

Deborah Sykora

Age: 60

Residence: Bolingbrook

Education: Bachelors in education, llinois State University; masters in curriculum and instruction, National Louis University

Qualifications: I was a teacher for over 35 years. I feel I know what works in a classroom and what doesn't always work with children. I know the motivation that children need, but what isn't always given to them.

Tonia Young Barr

Age: 46

Residence: Bolingbrook

Education: Bachelors in psychology, Harold Washington College

Qualifications: State of Illinois law enforcement officer and youth officer; works as an aid for Valley View School District
