1) What is the most important issue in this election?
We live in the state of Illinois. The most important issue in this election is the imminent threat that Illinois will discontinue our village funding. The village received over $5 million from the state of Illinois in 2012, about $4 million from income taxes and the balance from the state gas tax. Gov. Pat Quinn, in his recently proposed budget, is looking to slash up to $1 million from the income tax portion that we receive yearly. That is a trend that will continue as Illinois shifts its problems to local communities. We need to embrace lean government principles and broaden our tax base, or we will see higher taxes, diminished services or both.
2) Why should voters choose you?
I have seven years of experience with the Downers Grove Economic Development Corporation, both as a current executive board member and as a past chairman of that board. I understand the challenges and opportunities ahead, and I know how to spread the tax burden over a larger base of great businesses. I have been a partner at a public accounting firm for the last 16 years, and understand how to run a lean and productive organization. I have acted as an effective steward of my business and will do the same for the village. I value diverse points of view, and will consider all input in representing Downers Grove residents.
