VILLA PARK — Two Florida men were arrested and charged last week after allegedly breaking into a car and stealing and using multiple credit cards from the purse inside that they took.

Lawrence C. Milles-Trace, 24, of Florida, was charged with forgery, a Class 3 felony, and illegal use of a credit card, a Class 4 felony. With him was Jalil L. Allen, 25, of Florida, who was charged with forgery and possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.

Both men were arrested March 18 by Villa Park police officers.

At 11:30 a.m. that day, Villa Park police responded to a report that a car's window had been smashed in the parking lot of LA Fitness, 102 W. Roosevelt Road, and a woman's purse containing several credit cards had been taken.

Officers tracked the suspects while they used the credit cards at several locations, including Macy's and Foot Locker, both located at Stratford Mall in Bloomingdale.

When Villa Park detectives went to the mall, they got video surveillance and a description of the men using the credit cards. While detectives were still at the mall, the suspects tried to use a stolen credit card from another victim at the Kohl's store in the mall. They were stopped and arrested by Villa Park and Bloomingdale police officers.

After taking Milles-Trace and Allen into custody, Villa Park detectives found stolen credit cards belonging to multiple car burglary victims in Villa Park, Westmont and Downers Grove, along with items that had been purchased with the stolen credit cards.

According to police reports, the suspects had been targeting heath clubs and day care centers when breaking into cars.
