Community invited to Addison mayor's retirement event

ADDISON — After 30 years of service to the Village of Addison, Mayor Larry Hartwig's retirement will be celebrated on Sunday, April 21.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held at Medinah Banquets, 550 N. Shriners Drive, from 4 to 8 p.m. Tickets to the event are $30 a person, including buffet dinner, dessert, coffee and soft drinks, and contribution toward a gift. A cash bar will be available.

Hartwig was first appointed to the Village of Addison Police Commission in 1983. Hewas elected to office as village trustee in 1987, and re-elected in 1991 and 1995.

Shortly after that election, Village President Anthony Russotto died, and Hartwig was chosen by his fellow trustees as acting village president. He was elected as mayor in 1997, 2001, 2005 and 2009, and announced nearly a year ago that hewould not seek re-election in 2013.

During his tenure as mayor, Hartwig served on DuPage Mayors and Managers, Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, CMAP Council of Mayors, Choose DuPage and the DuPage Water Commission.
