Chicago man charged with threatening Representative Jeanne Ives

WHEATON — Bond has been set at $150,000 for a Chicago man charged with making threatening phone calls to state Rep. Jeanne Ives, R-42nd District, of Wheaton, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Stephen S. Bona, 49, of the 900 block of West Roscoe Street, Chicago, allegedly called Ives' office and left a threatening message at about 9:42 a.m. Friday. An investigation led law enforcement to Bona, and he was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

After Bona allegedly made another phone call, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office upgraded the charge against Bona to threatening a public official — a Class 3 felony — on Monday.

DuPage County Circuit Judge Michael Wolfe issued a $150,000 arrest warrant for Bona on Monday afternoon. Bona was then taken into custody by the Wheaton Police Department and released a short time later after he posted bail.

A Class 3 felony is punishable by up to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Bona is scheduled to appear in court April 29.
