Brothers charged with aggravated battery following Villa Park incident

VILLA PARK — Two brothers and parolees, one from Bensenville and one from Hanover Park, recently were charged with aggravated battery after an incident that happened March 9 in Villa Park.

Alexis Cruz, 28, of Bensenville, and his brother Armando Cruz, 26, of Hanover Park, were both charged with aggravated battery on two separate arrest dates.

Villa Park police were contacted by Elmhurst Memorial Hospital at 5 a.m. March 9 and told that the hospital was treating a battery victim who was in serious condition. The 26-year-old Villa Park man had been brought to the hospital by his friends and had serious injuries to his face and hands, police said.

Detectives went to the hospital, interviewed several witnesses, identified the suspects and issued arrest warrants for both men. Witnesses told police that a physical fight broke out after an argument at a home in the 200 block of North Third Street in Villa Park.

Alexis Cruz was arrested March 16 by Villa Park officers at a restaurant in Addison and charged with aggravated battery, a Class 1 felony. His brother, Armando, was arrested Friday by Villa Park officers at his work and also charged with aggravated battery.

Both men are currently on parole with the Illinois Department of Corrections. They were taken to the DuPage County Jail and are being held on bonds of $10,000 each. They also have holds with the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The victim has been released from the hospital, police said.
