Matt Kissane got his start doing stand-up comedy at Who’s on First, a now-defunct comedy club in Elmhurst.
Twenty years later, the Villa Park resident and Lombard native has appeared on TV programs, radio broadcasts, commercials and films. Recently, he launched a humorous podcast, “Live from Chicago, it’s Matt Kissane” as a way to reconnect with his longstanding interest in radio.
“I’ve always had a little soft spot for radio,” said Kissane, who was an on-air radio personality in New Jersey during college. “It’s always been a passion of mine that I never fulfilled.”
His program, “Live from Chicago,” began several weeks ago and has featured guests such as WGN’s Mike Toomey, Steven Adler from Guns N’ Roses, and a variety of actors and comedians.
The show is broadcast from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursdays through Slam Internet Radio, a podcast provider based on the north side of Chicago. Previous shows are available online and on iTunes.
Kissane’s experience in the entertainment industry is extensive. He interned at “NBC Nightly News” for Tom Brokaw during college and after graduation attended The Second City Players Workshop in Chicago. He traveled the Midwest working as a comedian and actor, where appeared at venues such as Summerfest
Kissane said he also was the opening act for Weird Al Yankovic during his 2000-01 “Running with Scissors” tour and appeared on “Real Food Cooking School” with Bobby Flay in 2008. He’s directed music videos for VH1 and appeared in films.
Now, much of his time is devoted to Absolutely Entertainment, the entertainment booking agency he owns.
His podcast program began earlier this year and so far, Kissane said he’s enjoying it.
“Everyone I talked to encouraged me to get back into radio,” he said.
His show is growing in popularity as he continues to get enthusiastic comments and feedback from friends, family and anyone else who’s listening to “Live from Chicago.”
“The last one was really successful,” he said. “We had 40 ‘likes’ on Facebook from the last one. I hope we can keep up the momentum.”
