Hinsdale Police Department cracks down on drunk and unbelted drivers

HINSDALE — In an effort to save lives and reduce serious injuries, the Hinsdale Police Department participated in an enforcement initiative to crackdown on drunk and unbelted drivers.

During the aggressive enforcement period that ran March 14-17, three motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 34 motorists were issued citations for failing to wear safety belts and 24 motorists were cited for speeding.

Three motorists were also arrested for driving on a suspended license, five motorists were cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, one citation was issued for possession of marijuana and 17 citations were issued to motorists for other Illinois vehicle code violations.

The Hinsdale Police Department received a state grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to participate in this effort. Grant funding allows the police department to assign additional officers for dedicated enforcement of the seat belt, driving under the influence and speed laws.
