BERWYN — A group of Cub Scouts from Berwyn Cub Scout Pack No. 1 visited the offices of Suburban Life Media today where they learned about how news is reported in the neighborhoods where they live.

The Scouts, based out of Irving School in Berwyn, visited the Suburban Life newsroom, talking to reporters, editors, photographers, page designers and other workers who are responsible for putting their local newspaper together.

The Scouts, who vary age range from 6 to 7, asked many questioned as they learend about the Berwyn Life, such as how news is reported and written, how news is gathered and how deadlines are very important when putting together a newspaper.

While none of the kids said they ever had their names or pictures in the newspaper before, One of the Scouts, Cole Sidman, 7, said one of his friends was in the newspaper when Chicago Bears player Roberto Garza visited his school.

And John Suter, 7, said his favorite part of the Cubs Scouts is the Pinewood Derby Race, and cooking.

Among the kids who were asked if they or their families read the Berwyn Life every week, they had mixed answers.

The students were curious about the Berwyn Life website and saw firsthand how quickly news can be published online, where anyone from Berwyn, or anyone with access to a computer, can read the news that concerns them.
