BERWYN — The cold spring has limited the activity so Friday's girls soccer match between Morton and Nazareth provided both teams a first chance to play on grass.

The Roadrunners received goals from four different scorers to pick up a 4-1 win in Berwyn.

Nazareth (1-1) dominated possession, but couldn't score on Morton goalkeeper Lili Martinez (15 saves) in the first half.

Star midfielder Gianna Milaro, a Purdue signee, broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second half.

“I think for our first game on grass and our second game this whole season we did pretty good,” Milaro said.

Eight minutes later Megan Tobin scored directly off a corner kick. The rarely seen goal is known in international soccer circles as an "Olimpico."

Allysa Garcia pulled the Mustangs (0-2) within one with a goal in the 67th minute. Morton pushed forward for the equalizer, but exposed their defense and Nazareth scored two late goals by Haley Renehan and Maureen Culligan.

“Any time we can come here and win is a good win," said Naz coach John Nikchevich. "Morton is a good team and their kids play with a lot of passion. It’s a great early game for us. It’s just good to see because it let’s me see our younger players and how they’re playing under pressure and where they need to get to.”

Morton is 0-2 after falling to Young 1-0 on Tuesday.

"We need to control our midfield more," said Morton coach Jim Bageanis. "We’re not connecting passes. A lot of our younger players aren’t blending with our older players. There’s a lot of miscommunications.” "
