OAK BROOK — Brook Forest fourth grader Aditya (Adi) Badlani will be the youngest competitor at the state’s National Geographic Bee.

The Bee, which is for fourth through eighth graders, will be held April 5 at College of DuPage. Adi is the only fourth grader in Illinois to qualify for the National Geographic Bee at the state level.

To be eligible for the state level Bee, participants had to compete at the school level, then take a qualifying test and submit it to the National Geographic Society. Adi was the Brook Forest School champion before reaching the next round.

As a state winner, Adi could be eligible to receive $100, the “Complete National Geographic on DVD” and a trip to Washington, D.C., where he will represent Illinois in the national finals at National Geographic Society headquarters, May 20 to 22.

The first-place national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship and lifetime membership in the society. The national winner will also travel (along with one parent or guardian), all expenses paid, to the Galápagos Islands.
